These summer months are the prime time for hiking in the foothills of the Pyrenees, exploring the pedestrianised Old Town or just kicking back at an al fresco café or restaurant terrace and taking in the mountain scenery.

Avoid the crowds

Explore Pau in May or September and you'll avoid the higher prices of peak summer along with the wetter weather of earlier in the spring and later in the autumn. Fly into Pau in May and you'll catch the Grand Prix de Pau, while September hosts city’s most important traditional events celebrating the province of Béarn.
