Things to do in Grenoble France

There’re almost 500 km of cycle paths in the region and plenty of walking routes ranging from short 30-minute strolls to multi-day hikes. If you’re looking for an easy walk in the city centre, there are flat, paved pathways along the Isere River that you can follow for miles.
In winter, Grenoble transforms into one of France’s hottest ski destinations. The city hosted the Winter Olympics in 1968, and keen skiers continue to fly from the UK to Grenoble today to enjoy the excellent skiing and snowboarding on offer.
If you’re not really looking for an active holiday, don’t worry. Grenoble has lots to offer. Right in the heart of the town, you’ll also find a massive park, Parc Paul Mistral. It’s so big that it even has its own ice rink. It’s a popular spot for a picnic. Just moments from the park is the Jardin de Plantes botanical garden, where you can relax while enjoying the colourful flowers that grow here.
As much as Grenoble is known for being a city of sport, it’s also known for being a city of museums. There’s a museum for almost everything. There’s an art museum. A museum of archaeology. A history museum. A museum of Dauphinois life. A nature museum and aquarium. Also, a military museum near the historic fort on Bastille Hill. Many of them are completely free to visit.
Bastille Hill is one of the best attractions in Grenoble and offers incredible views of the city and mountains. You can take the 40-minute hike to the top or get there in five minutes using the cable car. You can explore the fort at the top, take photos of the scenery, and stop for a drink at the panoramic cafe. Or you follow some of the walking paths that lead through the mountainside.

When it comes to food, Grenoble is famous for being the birthplace of the ‘French taco’. Loosely based on the traditional Mexican dish, the French taco is a flour tortilla filled with meat, cheese, and chips. It’s a popular fast food in the city and is a great budget-friendly choice for a quick snack.
