With its lively shopping and nightlife scene and myriad of historical sites, Southampton is a great city to visit all year round. Come in May or June for pleasant sightseeing temperatures, and August for the best chance of getting a tan on the area’s beaches, and taking a dip in the English Channel.

Southampton is a busy city with lots to offer, so you’ll find that it’s crowded often. That said, to avoid the larger masses it’s best to sidestep seasonal holidays, such as Christmas – the city’s main high street transforms into a popular German market at this point – and the height of summer, when visitors descend on the area’s beautiful sandy beaches.
