Is it quiet?

Anissaris is a peaceful resort with a couple of mini markets and bars, but its location close to Hersonissos means you can dip in and out of somewhere more lively.

What about the beaches?

The beaches here are man-made, so a mixture of sand and shingle. Hotel beaches tend to have sunloungers available, but if you’re not staying at one you should ask permission before setting up on their sand.

Where’s the nearest city?

Crete’s vibrant capital city, Heraklion, is only 21 kilometres away. Spending a day exploring its museums, ancient port and archaeological sites makes for a fascinating and fun outing.

Dive in
The coast – with its clear water, rocky seabed and plethora of brightly coloured fish and marine life – is an absolute dream for snorkellers and divers.
Sample village life
Three pretty villages are perched on the hilltop above Hersonissos: Ano Hersonissos, Koutouloufari and Piskopiano. Visit one – or all three – to enjoy quaint squares, tavernas and traditional crafts shops.
Visit the CretAquarium
If you prefer a bit of distance between you and your marine life, the CretAquarium, just a 15-minute drive away, is home to more than 2,500 species, from sharks to seahorses, all behind a glass wall.
