Where can I swim?

Head to the public lido, Lago Martianez, an artificial lake complex of saltwater pools, landscaped gardens and a sunbathing area, designed by Cesar Manrique in the 1970s.

Is there a beach?

Yes, it’s a volcanic beach with fine black Canarian sand. Keep an eye out for the waves – the sea conditions here make it perfect for surfing.

What’s the food like?

Hit the harbour for fresh fish and paella, or explore the eateries around the Plaza del Charco and Old Town. La Ranila is the place for contemporary Canarian cuisine.

Step back in time
Drive to Garachico, a historic town with cobbled streets and colonial buildings, including a 16th-century convent flanked by palms. The town’s authentic bodegas and restaurants are a treat.
Visit a museum
Housed in the historic customs house, the Museum of Contemporary Art is a must. Beautiful outside and in, view artworks by contemporary Canarian artists of the 20th century.
Get back to nature
Visitors have been enjoying the tropical plant varieties and heady scents of the Botanical Garden since it opened in 1788. Enjoy shady groves, meandering paths and majestic trees.
