Porto Cristo Holidays

Majorca at a gentle pace

Majorca’s so-called ‘Port of Christ’ (legend has it a rowboat once bobbed into the harbour containing only a crucifix) is a gorgeous suntrap resort that moves at its own leisurely pace. Porto Cristo is still a working fishing village, making its waterfront restaurants dreamy spots from which to watch the boats moor up and deliver their daily catch in the lunchtime sunshine. Yet there’s so much more to Porto Cristo holidays than watching the waves.

Its long, sheltered bay and Blue Flag-certified beach are huge draws on holidays to Porto Cristo, as are the magnificent underground network of Dragon Caves. There are golf courses close at hand for grown-ups, and plenty to keep young kids busy, including a mini safari park and boat trips. And, architecturally, the town is full of traditional Spanish character. After only a few hours in this harbourside gem, you’ll certainly be hooked.

Your Porto Cristo questions, answered

A Roman Basilica is situated on Avinguda de Joan Amer, and the remains of a Roman port are just behind the harbour, where not long ago an ancient ship was unearthed.
There are two courses nearby. Pula Golf is for more seasoned players, and has hosted PGA European Tour matches. Vall d’Or Golf is easier and has impressive sea views.
The nooks and crannies along the eastern coastline are ideal for indulging in a wide range of water sports, including scuba diving, snorkelling, canyoning and kayaking.
