Opening onto the main square in Heraklion, Legacy Gastro has got its central location all wrapped up. But step inside the cosy surroundings, and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d left the hustle and bustle behind. The hotel is home to just a dozen suites, each of which features carefully curated interiors themed around a local artist or writer.

As you might well expect, food is at the heart of this place. First there’s an all-day Italian restaurant, where you can get your fill of brunch in the morning, and fresh pasta and full-bodied wine in the evening. Then there’s the Epsilon Restaurant, where everything is cooked in a wood-fired oven to make the most of the tasty meats, net-fresh seafood, and punchy Greek flavours. And if those flavours take your fancy, you can even stock up on local cheeses, Greek cold cuts, and local olive oil right in reception.
