Your holiday questions answered

Unless you’ve stayed in countless hotels around the world, the chances are that you won’t even notice the difference between most four and five-star places. While a four-star hotel will most likely have a swimming pool, a five-star hotel could also add on a spa. The decor in a four-star hotel will be excellent, while that in a five star will be exceptional. There’s an extra twist of luxury thrown into five-stars, but many four-star establishments are very close to the mark. It’s often the facilities available that affect a hotel’s rating, so a beautiful boutique hotel may only receive four stars because it doesn’t have a gym. It’s a fine line and one that doesn’t need to dictate your holiday choices.

We have plenty of four-star holiday deals available, from Egypt and the Spanish islands to chic Greek hotels. A fun-filled waterpark hotel on Kos is as likely to have a four-star rating as a spa oasis on the Costa del Sol. You can dance the night away in Ibiza’s famous clubs and return to a junior suite in a four-star retreat – reviving breakfast included. Or why not choose a superior room near Santorini’s famous coastline with a pool deck carved into the cliffside? Finally, you could even go seriously swanky on Italy’s famous Amalfi coast, relaxing on your sea-view balcony to watch the perfect sunsets.

If you’re looking for romantic moments, Italy is hard to beat. We have four-star holidays available in Sardinia, Sicily, and along the Amalfi Coast. They’re all beautiful, bursting with typical Italian flair and packed with romantic views. Let’s not forget the Greek islands, either, which all have remarkably different characters. Corfu and Santorini are most likely to offer quieter romantic retreats, while Kos and Mykonos are party capitals. Meanwhile, if you want an action-packed couples holiday, consider heading to Egypt. Our holidays in Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada offer access to some of the best diving and snorkelling spots in the world.

Combine the best of both worlds with a city and beach break wrapped together. For instance, you could head to Croatia’s ancient city of Dubrovnik – a place of true historical significance and famous for appearing in the Game of Thrones series. It’s right on the coastline, too, and close to some beautiful beaches. Catania in Sicily is a quirkier choice for a city break. Situated on the slopes of Mount Etna, the city is outrageously Italian with motorbikes buzzing around, opera pouring through open doors, and rooftop bars that are effortlessly elegant.
