Afandou might be one of Rhodes’ biggest towns, just 5 kilometres from buzzing Falaraki, but it retains masses of Greek charm. The town’s name comes from the Greek word for ‘invisible’ – the town couldn’t be seen from the sea – which was a major benefit in the days of pirate raids. Today, Afandou holidays are anything but invisible – it’s a spot renowned for its pristine beach, cafés, churches and quaint town square, as well as its traditional carpet shops.

It’s also an excellent choice for golfing holidays, as Afandou is home to the only course on the island.
